One of my favorite bands growing up was the Talking Heads and I often think about their song “Once in a Lifetime”.  In the song, the verse “How did I get here” is a question that I often think about after 30 years of teaching.  Yes, I have been teaching PE and coaching a variety of sports ever since 1987, most of which have been at Blach.  I entered college back in 1983 to follow a career in math but had always been active in sports.  Sports provided me a close connection to my elderly father and teaching was the field my mother originally was in before becoming a dairy farmers wife.  It was a field I felt the most confident in and wanted to pass along the positive experiences I had as a student/athlete while limiting negative experiences that can sometimes occur in the physical education setting.  I have never regretted going into this field and proud of the number of students/athletes that I have had the pleasure of working with over the years.  Due to age, I have slowed down over time but remain active in cycling, hiking, tennis and occasional volleyball or basketball games.  I enjoy spending time with my amazing wife (also a teacher at Blach) and two wonderful teenagers (college and high school age).  Besides my interest in sports, my hobbies are traveling, photography, cooking and reading.
